OLR (Outgoing Longwave Radiation) refers to the thermal radiation flux density emitted outward to space by the Earth's atmospheric system at the top of the atmosphere. Its magnitude is determined by the temperature of the underlying emitting surface, as well as the vertical temperature profile and the content of absorbing gases in the atmospheric column above it. It is calculated using a nonlinear inversion model based on the radiances measured by infrared channels 8, 9, 11, 14 and 16. The satellite-derived outgoing longwave radiation product has a temporal resolution of 10 minutes and a spatial resolution of 2 km.
