资源简介:
JMA conducted a cultural resources investigation on Schodack-Houghtaling Island on behalf of the USACE - NY District. Three historic icehouse sites had previously been determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (OPRHP A03912.000111, A03912.000112 and A03912.000113). Field investigations conducted by JMA within the Corps property (the Project) included re-location of landscape features, as well as re-location and assessment of the three ice house complexes. JMA excavated 471 shovel tests from which 201 (mostly historic) artifacts were recovered. Three prehistoric artifacts were also recovered in stratigraphic association with coal, brick, glass and metal deposits. The co-mingling of prehistoric and historic-period artifacts in these shovel tests is likely a direct result of the dredge-filling activities that built this single, large island from three smaller ones. GPS data was taken for significant landscape features, visible structural features related to the ice house complexes and archeological excavations (ie., shovel test unit locations) using a handheld Trimble GeoXT receiver.
