To investigate the presence of antibiotic and metal resistance genes on plasmids in bacterial populations inhabiting freshwater sediment from Lake Macquarie, NSW, Australia. Total bacteria were extracted from soil, lysed, treated with Plasmid-safe DNAse, and the remaining circular DNA amplified by phi-29 mediated multiple displacement amplification.
