Antifungal agents, yeast levels and diversity in surface water: Risks to water users

This study reports on the yeast levels and diversity, and the presence of antifungal agents in surface water which is not well-documented in South Africa. The present study provides evidence that yeasts should be included as recreational water quality parameters, particularly in developing countries where large sections of the population are immunocompromised due to age, disease or economic disadvantage.
