The investigation conducted sheds light on the origins and development of the Municipal Band of Matino in the post-unification context. Through the analysis of archival documents, municipal agreements, notarial deeds, and inventories, numerous previously unpublished details emerge, beginning with the central figures of Policarpo Panìco, founder of the town's first local brass band in 1866, and Luigi Papadia, who led the band's re-establishment in 1880, later succeeded by the passionate work of his son Vincenzo in the early twentieth century. In addition to examining the pivotal role of the bandmaster and the internal regulations of the society, the study highlights the progressive development of instrumentation and repertoire. It thereby contributes to the historical reconstruction and appreciation of a musical tradition that remains deeply rooted in the collective identity of the people of Matino.
