Blue evapotranspiration (Blue ET) is the portion of ET derived from blue water sources, including surface water (rivers, lakes, reservoirs) and groundwater used for irrigation. It is a key component of blue water fluxes in water accounting. Blue ET consists of evaporation from irrigated fields, transpiration from irrigated crops, and water lost from artificial storage.
