THE EMOTIONAL–EXPRESSIVE POTENTIAL OF METAPHOR: AN IMRAD-BASED CORPUS STUDY

Metaphor is a part of how we create meaning in language. For a time people have known this.. When it comes to understanding how metaphor affects the emotional intensity of what we say and our attitude towards things there is not a lot of research that looks at real examples. This study looks at how metaphorsre used in modern English texts to express emotions. We found that metaphors play a role in making emotions stronger shaping our opinions and defining our relationships with others. The study used a combination of methods to analyze the metaphors, including looking at a collection of texts evaluating how people express emotions and identifying metaphors. Metaphor is really important for understanding how we use language to express ourselves and connect with others. By studying metaphor we can learn more about how it helps us amplify emotions frame our opinions and position ourselves in relation, to others. The results demonstrate that emotional meaning in metaphors arises from patterned interactions between semantic prosody, discourse context, and metaphorical mappings rather than being incidental or ornamental. The article explores the implications and offers a reproducible methodological model for analyzing metaphor's emotional-expressive meaning.for discourse analysis, pragmatics, and applied linguistics.
