An AI & corpus-based study of Evaluative That Clause Patterns in Academic English (Business & Medicine)

Complement clause constructions especially that-clauses are expression of a grammatical stance device in the English language as complement clauses are used to complete the meaning relationship of an associated verb, noun or adjective in a higher clause. While the research on academic writing highlights the importance of evaluative language and rhetorical strategies in constructing persuasive arguments, academic writers use various linguistic features, such as evaluative adjectives, stance adverbials, and self-mentions, to convey their attitudes, beliefs, and stance towards the subject matter.
