Super Simple Open Access Policy Participation (SPARC Innovation Fair)

When the University of California faculty adopted an Open Access policy in July 2013, one of the clearest requirements for implementation was "to develop and monitor mechanisms that would render implementation and compliance with the policy as convenient for the Faculty as possible.” While we are envious of institutions that have the capacity to meet with faculty one-on-one to facilitate OA policy participation; geographical spread, limited resources, and the disciplinary diversity of our 10-campus system means that we must answer the call for convenient compliance with robust, easy-to-use, self-service tools. Our support for OA policy participation consists of a two-pronged approach:<br>- A complete overhaul of our institutional repository's submission management system, condensing what was previously a 5-page submission form into a streamlined one-screen deposit mechanism; and - The adoption of a harvesting platform, based on Current Research Information Systems (currently experiencing widespread adoption at European institutions), which will allow faculty to simply confirm recently harvested papers for inclusion in the repository. During this two-minute talk I would like to very briefly re-cap the background information above, then utilize screenshots of both the redesigned manual deposit form and the CRIS system to illustrate how super simple faculty participation in an OA policy can be.
