new climatology of ocean temperature, salinity and density using hodrogaphy data set. They are interpolated at 25 standard vertical levels and on a 0.2°x0.2° grid by a Variational Inverse Model (VIM). In addition, moving temporal Gaussian running windows of 3, 5 and 10 years were used to obtain 3-year, pentadal and decadal variability for each standard level and month. In addition, associated statistical error map for individual horizontal fields were obtained from the VIM, by statistical analogy with optimal interpolation and Monte-Carlo approach. This product offers a 50-year climatology from 1945 to 2002 of the Mediterranean sea.
