Cost Burdened Households by PREP Region by Year (2019)

The federal government defines cost-burdened households as those that pay over 30% of household income to rent or mortgage payments. This is caused by high housing prices, low incomes, or both. This is an indicator of whether citizens are sharing in a region’s economic growth: as home prices rise, wages should rise, too.
