ITS1 Amplicon Sequencing of Gut Mycobiota from Mexican and Spanish Individuals With and Without Inflammatory Bowel Disease

This study investigates the gut fungal microbiota (mycobiota) in individuals with and without Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) from Mexico and Spain. ITS1 amplicon sequencing was performed on fecal samples to compare fungal diversity, identify differentially abundant fungal taxa, and evaluate correlations with anthropometric and nutritional factors. By exploring the relationships between host diet, geography, and intestinal fungal communities, this study aims to improve the understanding of the role of the gut mycobiota in health and disease, and to contribute to the identification of potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets for IBD.
