Soil and plant nutrient data from the Brotherton burning trial, uKhahlamba-Drakensberg

Soil and plant analyses from the Brotherton burning trial in the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg montane grasslands (~1900 m asl; fire treatments: infrequent burn, annual and biennial spring, annual and biennial autumn). Soil samples were collected (early March) to 15 cm depth and composited per plot for analysis of total carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Aboveground biomass was harvested mid-growing season (early February) from four quadrats per plot; living material was analysed by functional type (grass and forb) for carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Additionally, living leaf samples from Themeda triandra and Tristachya leucothrix were collected for species-specific nutrient measurements.
