Whether and how contextual methylation participates in lncRNA expression in rice.

The question about whether and how contextual methylation (i.e., CG, CHG, and CHH) participates in lncRNA remains unknown in plant species. Our study novelly demonstrated the participation of the context-specific DNA methylation (CG and CHH DNA methylation) in regulating lncRNAs expression in a representative monocot plant species, which this work inspires additional research into the fundamental epigenetic mechanisms underpinning the regulation of noncoding RNAs.
