Dataset supporting.- Postoperative Complications, Mortality, and Length of Hospital Stay Associated with Postoperative Recurrence of Hepatic Cystic Echinococcosis. A Retrospective Cohort Study

This anonymized dataset supports the findings of the study entitled “Postoperative complications, mortality, and length of hospital stay associated with postoperative recurrence of hepatic cystic echinococcosis. A retrospective cohort study”, currently under editorial review at PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases. The database includes clinical and surgical information from 154 patients over 18 years of age who underwent surgery for hepatic cystic echinococcosis (HCE) in two health centers in southern Chile between 1993 and 2019. Variables include sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidities, cyst features, type of surgery, evolutionary complications, postoperative recurrence, postoperative complications, mortality, and length of hospital stay. The cohort was divided into patients with recurrent HCE (exposed group) and those with primary HCE (non-exposed group). Data were extracted from institutional medical records, handled under strict ethical protocols, and fully anonymized to protect patient confidentiality.
