"Velero [III] launching". Construction worker with riveter, Captain Allan Hancock driving first rivet and another man, huge ship's engine suspended on crane above opening in ship's deck as it is lowered into place. "The two engines weighing fifty tons each were lowered to their bed." Velero III near dock and large group of onlookers and tugboat nearby, raised platform for dignitaries to observe from. "To the builders a most thrilling moment." Woman holding little girl near bow from which a bottle of champagne hangs, view of the massive prow of the ship resting sideways on a ramp of beams in front of the raised platform, men greasing the beams in preparation for the ship to slide sideways into the water, group of men on scaffold under hull beneath the stern, view from forward aft of port side of ship. "And, in June 1931, she was ready for launching". Workmen on roof of superstructure, man examining massive propellors, workman working on keel, workmen welding, view from inside the ship's hold showing the ship's ribs during construction, Hancock and another man hammering (backwards footage), scaffolding inside hold during construction looking up to underside of deck, view of the bow and scaffold surrounding the skeleton of the ship under construction, dignitaries and Hancock stand on the ground while ship construction workers work around them (backwards footage), Hancock driving first rivet.
