Saccharomyces eubayanus is one cryotolerant yeast species of Saccharomyces genus. This species was proved to be one parent of lager beer yeasts recently. But there is no natural S. eubayanus strain in Europe. So it is interesting that where lager yeasts originated from. Here we proved that the tibet S. eubayanus strains in China was the real progenitor of lager yeasts by calculating the genome similarity. Moveover, genome sequencing of S. eubayanus strains will help us know more about evolution of Saccharomyces genus.
