The subtropical monsoon climate, rich plant and abundant agriculture make Yunnan province, located in northwestern of China, a suitable place for ticks. Here, we described the virome profile of Rhipicephalus microplus tick collected during 2015 to 2017 in different landform of Yunnan via metagenomic sequencing. Totally, nine kinds of RNA viruses were detected which are characterized with diverse genome organizations and classifications. Most of them are novel unassigned viruses sharing minor similarity with rhabdovirus, flavivirus, phlebovirus and the recently proposed Chuviridae, respectively. Furthermore, we perform continuous epidemiological survey via PCR on part of these identified viruses, which indicate the broadly prevalence of four viruses and one possible prevalent flavivirus-like segmented virus among ticks. Our work contributes to our understanding of tick viromes and complementally reveals the high viral diversity in tick.
