The innate immune system of the mosquitoes defends against a variety of pathogens and the conserved siRNA pathway plays a central role in the control of viral infections. We have generated transgenic Aedes mosquitoes overexpressing Dicer2 (Dcr2) or R2d2 under the blood-meal inducible midgut specific promoter carboxypeptidase A (CpA) promoter. Through RNA-seq we have compared the mRNA abundance in the CpA-Dcr2 or CpA-R2d2 midguts compared to the wild type (WT) midguts at 24h post blood meal (PBM).
