THE ROLE OF THE GUT MICROBIOME IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ATOPIC DERMATITIS IN CHILDREN

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases in childhood. It is characterized by pruritus, xerosis, recurrent eczematous lesions, impaired skin barrier function, and immune dysregulation. Recent studies suggest that gut microbiome alterations may contribute to the development and severity of pediatric atopic dermatitis through the “gut–skin axis”. Atopic dermatitis affects a substantial proportion of children worldwide and has a significant impact on sleep, quality of life, family well-being, and the later development of allergic diseases.
