Through a three-year field trial in a subtropical bamboo forest, we explored the responses of soil physicochemical and microbial properties to application of biochar-based urea and urea, and how the biochar-based urea and urea regulated the dynamic changes in soil CH<sub>4</sub> uptake, temperature, water content, WSOC, MBC, NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup>-N, NO<sub>3</sub><sup>−</sup>-N, CH<sub>4</sub> oxidation rate, CH<sub>4</sub> production rate, <em>pmoA</em> gene, <em>mcrA</em> gene, and <em>pmoA/mcrA</em> ratio.
