GCB Asia 2020 India Data Extract — Silence as Equilibrium Replication

This dataset is the full regional microdata file from the Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) Asia 2020, a nationally representative survey capturing citizens' direct experiences with and attitudes toward corruption across 17 Asian countries and territories. The survey was conducted by Transparency International and local research partners between June and September 2020, covering approximately 20,000 respondents. Two countries, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, were surveyed earlier between March and August 2019. The original data and report were published as: Vrushi, J. (2020). The full report and original data files are publicly available at https://www.transparency.org/en/gcb/asia/asia-2020 The dataset covers the following thematic modules across all 17 surveyed countries: bribery rates by public service sector (public schools, hospitals, identity documents, utilities, police and courts), use of personal connections to access services, reasons for bribe payment, reporting behaviour and fear of retaliation, institutional trust (government, courts, police), Anti-Corruption Commission awareness and performance, right-to-information awareness, sextortion, and vote-buying. Country coverage includes Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal, Cambodia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan. This archive preserves the dataset as published by Transparency International. No observations were modified, reweighted or imputed beyond the post-stratification weighting applied by Transparency International in the original publication. All credit for data collection, survey design and original publication belongs to Transparency International and the research partners listed in Vrushi (2020).
