SUMMARY:

In this study a glutamate (Glu) racemase from an uncultivated bacterium was expressed in a Salmonella D-Glu auxotroph and proved to complement the phenotype. Peptidoglycan structure of the Salmonella strain expressing this racemase was also characterized.
