Impacts of landscape on the gut microbiome of a neotropical rodent

In this study, we sequenced the gut microbiome of the Tome's spiny rat, Proechimys semispinosus, a neotropical rodent that inhabits landscapes of differing degrees of anthropogenic disturbance in the Panama Canal area, Panama. The aim of the study was to investigate landscape-level habitat effects on the gut microbiome of a wildlife and generalist species. The hypervariable V4 Region of bacterial 16S rRNA gene was amplified using the primer pair 515F/806R and sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform. The uploaded samples are already demultiplexed.
