Body mass estimate of Postpalerinaceus cf. vireti, Atelerix cf. steensmai and comparative recent Erinaceinae, along with new cranial measurements of P. vireti. - Cailleux et al., 2025, S1.xlsx
收藏资源简介:
The file consists of a list of measurements (L=lenght; W=width) of the m1 of recent and fossil Erinaceidae, and their body mass estimate (with a 95% confidence interval). Body mass estimation is based on the corrected allometric equation of Legendre (1989) for insectivora: LogY =Log(b)+kLog(X), where X is the product of the length and width, k is the slope, and Log(b) is the intercept of the regression line. The 95% confidence interval is provided with k=1.8040 and Log(b)=1.2430 for the lower boundary and k=1.8860 and Log(b)=1.3849 for the upper boundary. This method has been applied to modern erinacein specimens (Atelerix albiventris, A. algirus, Paraechinus aethiopicus, Hemiechinus auritus, Erinaceus europaeus) housed at the zoological collection of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the Netherlands. In the case of recent specimens, the known body mass of adults from each species is provided with reference.
Along with these estimate, new cranial measurements of the holotype of Postpalerinaceus vireti (Can Trullàs 1, Late Miocene, Spain) are provided.
