资源简介:
To examine the effects of being placed under academic probation following the first year of college, we preprocess longitudinal data from a large Canadian university by performing exact matching on baseline covariates. We then use a regression discontinuity design to estimate impacts on dropping out, subsequent grades, and college graduation. We find that using exact matching to improve balance between treatment and control groups aids us in distinguishing larger effect sizes on the dropout rate and on subsequent grades for students who return to the university for another term. We are unable to detect any significant effects of academic probation on college graduation.
