NGS of Disease-associated Streptococcus suis isolates

Streptococcus suis, a pathogenic bacterium, poses a significant threat to pigs, leading to pneumonia, arthritis, polyserositis, endocarditis, and meningitis. While naturally occurring in the normal microbiota of pigs, this pathogen is frequently identified in the nasal, tonsil, and stool samples of swine. Our study focused on sequencing isolates linked to neurologic disease within the USA swine herd. This investigation aims to enhance our understanding of the diversity and the presence or absence of virulence-associated genes in Streptococcus suis isolates associated with neurologic disease in pigs.
