Development Finance of China and the European Union to Africa (2000-2017)

This repository provides a harmonised dataset on development finance from China and the European Union (EU) to 53 African countries from 2000 to 2017, structured primarily at the country–year (and, where relevant, country–year–donor) level to enable comparative panel analysis of allocation patterns and their determinants. The dataset underpins the empirical analyses in Manling Yang, Beyond confrontation? Comparing the determinants of Chinese and the European Union’s development finance to Africa, Asia Europe Journal, 2025. In addition to the dataset, the repository includes the code used in the article, forming a complete replication package that allows users to reproduce the published results and build on them in further research.
