Camellia sasanqua is one of the most famous Camellia (Sect. Oleifera Chang, Theaceae) plants due to its aesthetic appeal and ideal characteristics as a landscape plant. However, knowledge regarding the flowering time, floral aroma and color for this species is still largely unclear, which essentially hampers the breeding efforts to cultivate new Camellia varieties with desired floral traits. We here reported the transcriptome of C. sasanqua with the aiming to offer new insights and resources for future functional genomics studies and genetic improvement of this valuable Camellia species.
