Workplace Spirituality as an Ethical Resource for Faculty Well-Being: The Mediating and Moderating Role of Organizational Commitment in Indian Higher Education

Drawing viewpoints from organizational commitment and workplace spirituality scholarship, this empirical research investigated the influence of workplace spirituality on faculty well-being, and studied mediating and moderating effects of organizational commitment. The valid data from 500 faculty members working in higher educational institutions in Hyderabad, India was analyzed via structural equational modeling to investigate the proposed relationships. The SEM results reveal that the workplace spirituality is positive and significantly influences the organizational commitment and faculty well-being. The organizational commitment positively enhances faculty well-being, partially mediates and positively moderates the association among workplace spirituality and faculty well-being. A 38% variance in faculty well-being is explained by workplace spirituality and organizational commitment. This study supplements the available literature on sustainable human resource practices, and empirically validates the impact of workplace spirituality with robust SEM analysis. The findings offer several implications for university professors and policy makers by underscoring how spiritually supportive work settings can strengthen the faculty commitment and enhance their well-being.
