资源简介:
This collection comprises a report, images, and site records from a watching brief carried out as part of gas pipeline replacement works. An archaeological watching brief was conducted during the machine-excavation of six renewal pits along the line of an existing gas pipeline (NLGA 7033), near to the village of Bromham, Bedfordshire. The pits were excavated to allow the existing metal pipe to be replaced in plastic. The pits targeted a section of the pipeline along Church Lane which intersected a Scheduled Monument, known as Oakley Bridge (List Entry1005397), which crosses the River Great Ouse. The watching brief located a small number of archaeological deposits, considered to be of local importance, and which have enhanced our understanding of the local archaeological record. The vast majority of recorded layers were undoubtedly backfill events relating to construction of the original gas main and, although 19th century artefacts were recovered from Renewal Pit 4, it is considered that these were probably residual.
