Greenhouse gas emissions dashboard
收藏资源简介:

he dashboard includes two inventories:

Corporate emissions from City operations like buildings, fleet, solid waste, and wastewater.

Community emissions which come from key sectors such as buildings, transportation, waste and agriculture.

These inventories capture both direct and indirect emissions and follow internationally accepted accounting principles to ensure consistent and transparent reporting.

As approved in the Climate Change Master Plan (CCMP) Council’s long-term targets are to reduce community emissions by 100 per cent by 2050 (net-zero) and corporate emissions by 100 per cent by 2040 with 2012 as the baseline year. A baseline year is a reference point in time against which emissions or performance metrics are measured over the years. The interim targets for the corporate emissions are 2025 (30 per cent reduction), 2030 (50 per cent), and 2040 (100 per cent). These targets for the community emissions are 2025 (43 per cent), 2030 (68 per cent), 2040 (96 per cent), and 2050 (100 per cent).

The City’s GHG emissions are tracked each year and are published once all of the data is collected and validated. It can take up to a year to publish the previous year’s data. Some information is provided by the provincial and federal governments, which can take more time to release. The online dashboard will be updated once all of the data is available and validated.

What's included in the inventories?
Corporate inventories track emissions from municipal operations in four sectors:

Facilities: buildings, streetlights, and traffic lights

Fleet: municipal, transit, and police fleets

Solid waste: the Trail Road Waste Facility and former Nepean landfill

Wastewater: treatment of wastewater at Robert O. Pickard Environmental Centre

Community inventories track total emissions from activities within the geographic boundaries of Ottawa (including emissions from municipal operations) in four sectors:

Buildings: residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors

Transportation: on-road, aviation, railway, and off-road transportation

Waste: public and private landfills and wastewater treatment

Agriculture: crop production and livestock operations

What are the data sources?
Corporate: Operational data reported by City departments such as energy use and fuel consumption.

Community: Utility data (e.g., Hydro One), fuel suppliers and provincial datasets. Provincial and national datasets use the Ottawa to Ontario proportions to reflect Ottawa’s share.

What influences results from year to year?
There are many things that can influence emissions results. These include:

Data availability and accuracy

Population change

Weather

Regulatory or technology shifts

Energy prices and availability

GHGs created from energy sources

Changes in consumer behaviour

Accuracy: The greenhouse gas emissions dataset is currently in beta; the structure and content may change without notice.
