Dataset - Assessing the Practical Viability of OpenTelemetry in Modular Monoliths: A Performance Perspective

This work investigates the impact of observability instrumentation on the performance of a cloud-based system operating in a real production environment at the Court of Justice of the State of Rondônia (TJRO). Modern distributed systems rely heavily on observability tools to ensure reliability, traceability, and fault detection; however, these tools may introduce overhead that affects system latency and throughput. Using production workloads and real monitoring data, this study evaluates how different levels of instrumentation influence system behavior, comparing scenarios with and without observability pipelines enabled. Results demonstrate measurable performance degradation associated with intensive instrumentation, especially in high-load conditions, while also highlighting trade-offs between operational visibility and system efficiency. The findings provide practical guidance for engineering teams seeking to balance observability needs with performance requirements in cloud environments.
