A carbonate microscopic image dataset of the Permo-CarboniferousTaiyuan Formation in the southern margin of the North China Block

In this paper, the microscopic images of the Carboniferous Permian bioclastic limestone in the southern margin of the North China plate are collected and sorted out. Three field profiles of Taiyuan formation across lagoon limited platform open platform slope multiphase belt in western Henan Province are selected as the research objects, and the representative images and rock characteristics are classified and described. The samples are mainly composed of bioclastic grainstone and bioclastic grainstone with high content of lime. The thin sections of limestone were observed and photographed by Zeiss polarizing microscope equipped with a microphotographic system. There are 95 limestone samples and 380 micrographs, which can be divided into three types: micritic limestone, argillaceous limestone and grainstone. The establishment of this image set can provide basic materials for the study of paleoclimate, paleoenvironment, paleontology and sedimentary differentiation of facies belt in the middle latitude of northern hemisphere during the late Paleozoic glacial period.
