Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) has become an important biofuel crop. The experiment was designed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for flowering time in switchgrass genotypes contrasting in heading and anthesis dates through transcriptome profiling by RNA-seq. In addition, the identified candidate genes could be utilized in downstream applications that would include the development of desirable switchgrass cultivars with late flowering and high biomass yield through marker-assisted selection.
