Dîwân-i-Aḥmad Nâmaḳî. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 910 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 329 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 910 Dîwân-i-Aḥmad Nâmaḳî (ديوان احمد نامقى). The lyrical poems of the great Shaikh-alislâm Abû Naṣr Aḥmad bin Abû-alḥasan (or, according to others, Abû-alḥusain) Nâmaḳî Jâmî, usually called Aḥmad-i-Jâm, with the epithet of Zhandapîl (ژنده پیل), who was born in Nâmaḳ, a village near Jâm, A.H. 441 (A.D. 1049, 1050), and died A.H. 536 (A.D. 1141, 1142), see the Safînat-alauliyâ, No. 308, and the Haft Iḳlîm, No. 667; compare besides Rieu ii. p. 551; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 323; Nafaḥât-aluns, pp. 405-417; Muntakhab-alash’âr, No. 16 (Bodleian Cat., col. 241); Âtashkada, No. 155 (ib., col. 267); Khulâṣat-alafkâr, No. 3 (ib., col. 302), and Makhzan-algharâ’ib, No. 3 (ib., col. 317); the third poetical specimen, quoted in the last-named tadhkirah, is found in this copy on fol. 24b, last line. Contents: Ghazals and a few ḳaṣîdas, arranged alphabetically, except the first, on fol. 1b, beginning: اى جمالت تابشى در انس و جان انداخته پرتو روی تو نوری در جهان انداخته Two short mathnawîs (of forty-five and eighty-nine baits respectively), on fol. 99a, the first celebrating the Ḳalandar or wandering monk, and having as first word in each hemistich the word قلندر, begins thus: قلندر پرتو نور الهيست – قلندر مطلع انوار شاهيست the second, on fol. 101a, begins: خداوندى كه آن پيدا و پنهانست جمالش بين كه در هر ذرّه تابانست The rubâ’îs, found in Rieu’s and Sprenger’s copies, are wanting here. No date. Ff. 54-63 are misplaced, their right order being: 54, 61, 62, 55-60, 63. No. 329, ff. 104, 2 coll., each ll. 12; large Nasta’lîḳ; illuminated frontispiece; size, 11 in. by 61/4 in.
