In this study, we monitored the loss of antibiotic resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain that carries type III staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) in a long-term evolution experiment in a medium without antibiotics. We aimed to identify the molecular basis of the methicillin sensitivity observed in evolved strains and to evaluate and compare growth characteristics in resistant and susceptible strains.
