Dataset: Stereoscopic Depth and Object Size Effects on Fixations and Subjective Saliency in Autostereoscopic Displays

We conducted a psychophysical experiment following Tam & Stelmach's pairwise comparison (1998) and Dettmann's adaption of the experimental setup (2021) to determine whether stereoscopic depth or object size has a stronger effect on visual attention. The experiment was set up to foster the understanding how people perceive the salience of depth compared to size, following the framework of Wolfe & Horowitz (2017), where size has been proven to be an undoubted guiding attribute compared to stereoscopic depth, which is categorized as probable guiding attribute. The role of apparent size (viewing angle) was considered, as it is closely related to object size, in shaping perception (cf. Wolfe & Horowitz, 2017). The dataset resulting from the experiment encompasses three CSV files. These files include (1) reaction times (forced-choice task) for different stimulus pairs with varying attributes, (2) subjective salience decisions indicated via key press for each stimulus pair, and (3) the first gaze orientation starting from the fixation cross.
