Experimental investigation, process simulation and techno-economic assessment of biomass gasification using carbon dioxide

Our goal was to turn waste from the oil palm industry and carbon dioxide from factories into a useful fuel called syngas. We studied the five types of biomass most commonly found in Malaysia and compared their qualities to determine which one would work best. Oil palm empty fruit bunches biomass turned out to be the most promising material. We then ran lab tests, computer simulations, and economic studies to confirm that the process could work on a larger scale. Overall, the research shows that it is practical and feasible to convert biomass and CO₂ into syngas using gasification.
