资源简介:
<p>3D scan of a fossilized horned trilobite from the Devonian found in Morocco (partially restored). The first trilobites evolved 521 million years ago, and went extinct in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian (252 million years ago). This specimen is just one of many different trilobites in the collection of the NHM Vienna. Other trilobites developed tridents instead of horns, but the specific function of the headdresses is still unclear.</p><p>Trilobites are one of the most well-known animals of the ancient world.
Their name means “three lobes”. They are a group of extinct marine
artiopodan arthropods. These animals are characterized by complexly built articulated bodies
with a broad head shield, numerous body segments and a tail shield. Some species developed showy structures on their head like these,
compared to is body size, large horns. The function of the horns is
unclear, maybe they played a role in courtship, or in combat with
cospecies or were used for digging in the sand while searching for food.</p>
