The epitope is a consensus sequence derived from eight elapid long-chain alpha-neurotoxins. Epitope specific antiserum inhibited the activity of venom that was subsequently injected into CD1 mice, as measured by survival. Pre-treatment with antisera delayed the death of 50% of the mice and prevented death in 20% of the mice.
