Quantifying the Community Spread of Chikungunya Virus: A Case-Driven Modeling Study of the 2025 Nanning Outbreak

This dataset contains the aggregated epidemiological data supporting the findings of the associated study on the chikungunya fever outbreak in Nanning, China. 1. Data Source and Collection Surveillance data were extracted from the China Disease Prevention and Control Information System. All cases were mandatorily reported by healthcare institutions to the Nanning Center for Disease Control and Prevention and entered into the system following standardized epidemiologic investigations. The data cover the period from August 11 through November 6, 2025, during the Level 3 emergency response in Nanning. Case definitions followed the *Chikungunya Fever Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol (2025 Edition)* issued by the National Health Commission. Both clinically diagnosed and laboratory-confirmed cases were included. Trained public health staff conducted epidemiologic investigations for each case, collecting demographic information (age, sex, residential community) and activity history within 12 days before symptom onset. Cases were classified as local or imported based on investigation findings. 2. File Description The data are provided in a single Microsoft Excel file: `data.xlsx`. The file contains one sheet with daily community-level aggregated data. Each row represents one day of the outbreak, and columns include: - `date`: Date of reporting (YYYY-MM-DD).- `daily_cases`: Number of newly reported local cases on that date.- `daily_affected_communities`: Number of communities reporting their first local case on that date.- `Cumulative_cases`: Cumulative number of local cases up to that date.- `Cumulative_affected_communities`: Cumulative number of communities that have ever reported a local case up to that date. 3. Data Processing and Ethics All data were aggregated at the community level; no individual patient information is included. The dataset is fully de-identified and anonymized to protect privacy.
