Anonymized Dataset for TOEFL-like Academic Reading Study

This dataset supports the manuscript entitled “Testing The Pedagogical Limits of Simplified Academic Texts in EFL Reading.” The study examined students’ TOEFL-like academic reading performance across two reading-test conditions: an authentic academic text condition and a modified academic text condition. The dataset contains anonymized test-score data from undergraduate EFL students. The initial dataset consisted of 41 participants. The final analytic sample consisted of 38 complete paired cases because three control-group participants did not have complete paired scores across both text conditions. Each reading test was scored from 0 to 14 and converted into percentage scores. The uploaded files include an anonymized full dataset, a complete-case dataset, a long-format analysis-ready dataset, a codebook, descriptive statistics, an exclusion log, metadata, and a README file. Student names, original student identification numbers, email addresses, Google Form links, QR codes, and other direct identifiers have been removed to protect participant privacy. This dataset is intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and verification of the quantitative findings reported in the related manuscript.
