Honeypot Cyber Intrusion Dataset For Cybersecurity Research

A honeypot is a controlled, intentionally vulnerable system designed to attract and record malicious network activity. Figure shows the HoneyTrap honeypot system setup, accessed through Merit Network. The Honeypot dataset collected from Merit Network captures real-world intrusion attempts using distributed honeypot sensors that log unsolicited traffic directed at decoy services.Each record includes essential metadata\u2014timestamps, source\/destination IPs and ports, protocol type, payload details, and event classifications\u2014providing insight into regional attack patterns, service probing, exploitation attempts, and botnet activity such as Mirai. Data is collected through HoneyTrap sensors, streamed via RabbitMQ, stored in BigQuery, and exported to Parquet for analysis.
