Witness marks were used in the recovery and identification of permanent marks. Placed a known distance and direction from the permanent marks, witness marks provided an alternative coordination, and helped identify the stability of a mark. Sometimes referred to as a witness post.This series comprises of Locality Sketch Plans identifying the location and coordinates of Witness Marks. The majority of the Locality Sketch Plans also identify the physical description of the Witness Mark, alongside the survey coordinates. These include, but are not limited to; copper pipes; iron spikes; light poles; and brass triangles
