Parkes observations for project P236 semester 2006OCTS

We propose to observe in the next semester the polarization of ~120 pulsars discovered by the Parkes Multibeam Pulsar Survey. This will give the first\nmeasurements of the polarization properties of these pulsars, giving\nnew information about the pulsar pulse emission mechanism. We will also\nobtain rotation measures (RMs), which provide unique probes of the\nlarge-scale structure of magnetic fields in our Galaxy. These RM data\nwill be used to further investigate a newly proposed model of the\nGalactic magnetic field (Han et al. 2006), in which the magnetic\nfields in all spiral arms are evidently counterclockwise but clockwise\nin the interarm regions.
