As of 2021, the total area of non-residential buildings in South Africa was registered at nearly 1.78 million square meters, a decrease of 3.8 percent from the preceding year. The area of non-residential buildings was the largest in the province of Gauteng, the smallest South African province by surface area, with a value of some 608.2 thousand square meters. The province of Western Cape came in second, with an area of about 574.6 thousand square meters.
