Synonymous intensifier explored through corpus-based study: absolutely and perfectly

This thesis undertakes an exhaustive investigation into synonymous intensifiers, with particular emphasis on the adverbs "absolutely" and "perfectly". By conducting a corpus-based analysis, this study examines the subtle distinctions in meaning and usage patterns of these intensifiers across a range of linguistic contexts. The frequency, collocational patterns, and pragmatic functions of every intensifier are investigated by using both quantitative and qualitative analyses in this research. Furthermore, the research investigates the impact of discourse variables, including register, genre, and speaker intent, on the selection and allocation of synonymous intensifiers. The results of this study offer significant contributions to our understanding of how intensifiers impact the significance, emphasis, and rhetorical impact of spoken and written discourse. This thesis contributes to a better understanding of lexical diversity and pragmatic nuances in English, particularly in the context of intensification strategies. This thesis aims to shed light on the mechanisms through which language learners attain proficiency and mitigate the factors that contribute to breakdowns in communication.
