NRS-18598 | Leaving Certificate Examination Forms of Entry [Newcastle Boys' High School]

This series consists at present of seven bundles of the Leaving Certificate Examination form of Entry (New South Wales Department of Education Form LC 20), evidently the High School’s own copies for record. Other sets of the form must be presumed to have existed for earlier years, perhaps since the Leaving Certificate Examination was first sat at the High School in 1913. The bundles currently held cover the last seven years in which students from Newcastle Boys’ High School sat the Leaving Certificate Examination, which was phased out after 1961. Each bundle covers one year.The forms record the name, in full, of each candidate for the examination, their gender, any scholarships or bursaries they might have held, the subjects for which they were sitting the examination (and whether at Pass or Honours level), and their parents’ name and address. Each year’s students are listed in alphabetical order. The forms were to be signed by the Principal to certify that all candidates had satisfied the requirements of the Department to be eligible for the Leaving Certificate, but most of these are unsigned, lending support to the conclusion that these are the High School’s own duplicate copies for record. Of those three forms which do bear signatures, two are dated on the closing date for submission and one eighteen days after the closing date. (In this registration, the closing date of each form has been treated as the effective date of the form).The forms in each bundle are collated into alphabetical order. Some few sheets are creased or torn, but all are legible.
