UCE Target Capture for Clothes Moths (Family Tineidae)

DNA was extracted from 39 tineid samples and 2 outgroups, including the closely related Tineola and Tinea genera, and generated genome-wide sequence data for thousands of ultraconserved elements (UCEs) using myBaits bait set Lepidoptera-UCE-1.3K-v1. Data for this project produced the best supported phylogenetic tree of the Tineid family, a group whose phylogenetic relationships have been historically unresolved. The Tineidae family contains several synanthropic, keratinophagous, and economically important pest species that routinely impart damage to museums, households, and businesses globally. Understanding phylogenetic relationships within this deeply-diverged family is crucial to understanding dietary evolution and synanthropy across the order Lepidoptera.
